How to Pick the Best Pet Boarding Facility

Although everyone loves going away on vacation it can be hard to leave your beloved pets behind. Boarding for dogs can be especially difficult if your dog has any special needs such as separation anxiety or takes any medication. There are a couple of things to look for as you explore your options to ensure you find the best one.

Take a Tour

Yes, this can be a difficult request as most facilities maintain that the only humans allowed in dog area are staff. However, boarding for dogs is a tricky business and it is very important to see the entire facility to ensure it meets your needs.
Staffing Hours

Not all boarding facilities will have staff on-site 24 hours a day, but it is highly recommended to find one that does. Emergencies can happen any time of day or night and if your pet experiences a medical emergency you will want someone to be able to respond as quickly as possible.
Vaccination Requirements

If the facility does not require vaccinations you may want to move on to your next option. It is incredibly important that all pets have basic vaccinations if they'll be living in the same area for an extended period of time. At a minimum requirement for dogs should include kennel cough, rabies and distemper vaccines.
