Many kennels keep the animals in small cages. This shouldn’t be a problem if your pet is used to spending time in his or her crate. However, some dogs get anxious inside small crates or cages, especially if they aren't used to it. If this sounds like your dog, you may want to opt for a pet hotel. Pet hotels provide upscale rooms to create a more homey environment.

 Playtime and Exercise

Before you choose a dog kennel, ask the employees about group play sessions. If the facility offers these programs, make sure the activities are well supervised. You should also find out how the center deals with possible injuries that occur during play.

Similarly, research the exercise options at each kennel. If your pet loves to run around and play, choose a facility that walks the dogs frequently and provides a fenced-in outdoor space.

 Food

Giving a dog food he or she isn't used to could lead to stomach problems. While most boarding facilities provide healthy pet food, you should look for a kennel that encourages pet parents to bring their dog’s usual food to the facility at no extra cost.

Finding the right dog kennel can be a stressful process. Yet if you follow the above instructions, you should be able to find a place that will feel like your pet’s second home. This will give you one less thing to worry about during your vacation.
